Greetings Cannes! The Cirkus Production team in New Zealand has been hard at work animating the winning storyboard from the “My Animation Workshop”. Yesterday we showed you the 2D animatic and now we have the second WIP ready! This animatic now has completed character animation and, as spectacular as the stand-ins were, we have replaced them with the final voice-overs.

To recap, here is the creative brief the delegates were given, Product: Air Feature: Keeps you alive Spot length: 15 sec, you have to use the below character in 6 different backgrounds.

The objective of this workshop is to think beyond one production platform and mix the 3D character with whatever media; this can be live-action, digital stills, stock footage, 2D drawings, matte-paintings a miniature set or the use of stop-motion – you name it!

Tomorrow we begin the rendering process and should have some scenes to show. On Friday we will continue rendering and composite all the 2D and 3D elements and output the final Animated spot. To view an easy explanation of the Animation Process check out our quirky and entertaining ABC to Animation here

Bonjour Cannes! Our Production team in New Zealand has been beavering away on the winning workshop storyboard from our “My Animation Rules” Workshop.

Click here to see the first WIP! The Cirkus artists have started to put the elements and 3D characters on a timeline to see how the story can work. This is the first real step in the animation process and, evidently, it’s pretty rough, complete with stand-in voice-overs. Over the next days we will animate the character and object(s) proper, work on camera, layout and timing. Once we’re happy with all animation we will render and composite all the 2D and 3D elements to create this animated spot.

We are working with the following creative brief:

The objective of this workshop is to think beyond one production platform and mix the 3D character with whatever media; this can be live-action, digital stills, stock footage, 2D drawings, matte-paintings a miniature set or the use of stop-motion – you name it!

You can vote for the board that YOU would like to see go into production, so check out the Cirkus blog or go on our Facebook or Twitter feeds to get in on the action. The boards have also been put up at the Cirkus booth in the Palais at the festival. Voting will finish end of day June 17th.

Once the winning board is chosen the Cirkus artists will perform their magic tricks to produce an animated spot during this Festival week.

Here is another of our ongoing projects that has finally been released. This Nestle Bear Brand TVC was created in association with Ogilvy Jakarta and Making Name film Company. This commercial encapsulated the concept of the body (fantastical environment) being attacked by sickness/inner heat (Demon) and being cured by Nestle Bear Brand (Dragon). The Epic fight between the Dragon and Demon was produced by our stellar effects and animation team directed by Juggler Christian Greet.

Some – dare we say – amazingly detailed 3D modeling and design, as well as fluid magic from Dare Devil Chris Lyne completed the action packed character animation.

Cannes is the perfect platform to perform our tricks for a worldwide creative audience.

Since our first visit in 2009, we have built a highly successful relationship with the Cannes Lions organisation and with that comes our continued presence in sponsoring and hosting a workshop.

Our 2010 “Kamikaze” workshop, 2011 “How much animation does my dollar buy” workshop and 2012 “Do it not the Same” workshops all have the same objective, demonstrating to delegates that animation is a fun and creative tool which, if done in a smart way, will have the X-Factor.

The core mission of Cirkus is making animation accessible and understandable to the general public. The purpose of our workshops is to engage delegates into generating creative ideas for animation, storyboarding and the use of mixed media.
